More on how I work

Work

A look at what I’ve built

Two projects in full — what they needed, and what I actually delivered.

Case study

Blackthorn University

A whole university’s website — mission and faculty pages, an events calendar, an admissions workflow, a Moodle student portal, and Discord, YouTube, Flickr and Primfeed wired in.

Blackthorn teaches in Second Life, the online virtual world. The campus is virtual; the website is real.

  • Multi-page site
  • Student portal

SNO Lufthavn

Flight timetable, ticket bookings and hangar rentals, plus a members’ area for staff, airlines and the fire department — and in-world ticket kiosks wired to the site.

SNO is an airport in Second Life, the online virtual world. The runways are virtual; the bookings are real.

Two case studies for now — I’d rather show you sites I actually built than a wall of logos, and more will follow. There’s more of my virtual-world work over at courtneyjamessl.com.

Pricing

Straightforward pricing

No packages you don't need, no surprise bills. One price to build it, one to keep it running.

Building it — a one-off

Website build

from £500 + VAT (£600 inc.)

A five-page website, designed and built for mobile first, ready to bring you customers. Includes three rounds of changes once I hand it over, so we get it right together.

Online shop

from £1,500 + VAT (£1,800 inc.)

A complete shop that takes card payments straight into your own account — never through me. Around 20 products with UK shipping and a simple screen for managing orders.

Extra pages

£75 each + VAT (£90 inc.)

Need more than five? A price list, a gallery, a page for each service — written, designed and built to match the rest of the site. Add them at the start or years later.

Keeping it running — monthly

Hosting & maintenance

£40/month + VAT (£48 inc.)

Fast, secure hosting with an SSL certificate, your domain renewed every year at no extra cost, and software kept up to date. A safe copy of your site is kept. Cancel any time — no tie-in.

The same price for every site — no tiers to work out.

Care plan

from £20/month + VAT (£24 inc.)

Unlimited changes to your site, priority support and remote help when you're stuck. Add it to hosting, or take it on its own if your site lives elsewhere.

One change every couple of months and it's paid for itself.

Shops and busier businesses take the Business Care Plan at £30/month + VAT.

Build your quote & see your total

  • Want the full list? Every price is published — getting set up on Google, the local SEO plans, extra service areas, one-off changes. Nothing held back for a phone call.
  • Your site can do more than be read. Take bookings and deposits, show a job gallery, price work off a photo somebody sends in, put a proper menu with allergens up, run a holiday-let calendar that syncs with Booking.com and Airbnb, or hold a members area for a club. All of them are built into the site while it is being built.
  • Hosting and business email both need a domain I buy and host for you. Renewals are included and moving your address across costs nothing — but if it's staying with another company I can only build the site and hand it over, not host it.
  • Not sure what you need? Tell me about your business and I'll put a price together — no obligation, and you'll always agree it before any work starts.
  • Prefer to take the files and do it yourself? That's fine too — you get the lot, with instructions, at no extra cost.

Prices shown are before VAT, which is added at 20% — the total you'll actually pay is in brackets beside each one. No setup fees hiding at the bottom of an invoice.

Coverage

Where I work

Anywhere in the UK. I'm based in Barrow-in-Furness, but a website gets designed, built and looked after over email, phone and video — so where you are makes no difference to the site you get, the price you pay, or how quickly I answer when something needs changing.

In Cumbria? Then I can come to you as well.

Good to know

Questions people ask

The things most people want to know before they pick up the phone.

How much does a website cost?

A five-page website starts at £500 + VAT (£600 inc.) as a one-off. Every price is published on the pricing page — nothing is held back for a phone call, and you agree the price before any work starts.

What does hosting cost, and am I tied in?

Hosting is £40 + VAT (£48 inc.) a month — the same price for every site, no tiers to work out. There is no tie-in: hosting and care plans run month to month and you can cancel any time.

Do I own my website?

Yes. If you ever want to leave, you take the site with you — all the files, with instructions, at no extra cost. A website you can't take with you isn't really yours.

Can you get my business found on Google?

That's the point of the whole thing. Every site is set up so Google understands where you are and what you do, and there are local SEO plans for climbing the rankings in the towns your customers actually search from.

Where are you based, and does it matter?

Barrow-in-Furness, in Cumbria — and I work with businesses right across the UK. Nearly all of it happens over email, phone and video, so where you are makes no difference to the site you get, the price, or how quickly I answer.

Who will I actually be dealing with?

Me. The person who designs your site is the person who builds it, hosts it and answers when something needs changing — nothing gets lost between departments, because there aren't any.
